Cleaning Codes

Below are guidelines for cleaning fabrics. These codes are provide by fabric mills and do not serve as a warranty for color fastness, shrinkage, etc. as a result of cleaning. As always, test a small inconspicuous area before cleaning the piece. 
 
  • S - Clean with pure solvents (petroleum distillate-based products). Professional dry cleaning recommended. Caution: Use of water-based or detergent-based sovent cleaners may cause excess shrinking. Water stains may become permanent and unable to be removed with solvent cleaning agents. To prevent overall soil, frequent vacumming or light brushing to remove dust and grime is suggested. 
     
  • SW - Clean this fabric with water-based cleaning agents, foam, or pure solvents (petroleum distillate-based products). Professional dry cleaning recommended. To prevent overall soil, frequent vacumming or light brushing to remove dust and grime is suggested. 
     
  • W - Clean this fabric with water-based cleaning agents of water-based foam to remove soil. Many household cleaning agents are harmful to the color and life of a fabric. Professional dry cleaning is recommended. To prevent overall soil, frequent vacumming or light brushing to remove dust and grime is suggested. 
     
  • X - Clean this fabric only by vacuuming or light brushing to prevent accumulation of dust or grime. Water-based foam or solvent-based agents of any kind may cause excessive shrinking or fading.
     
  • WS - Clean with shampoo, foam, or dry cleaning solvents as desired. Do not saturate with liquid. Pile fabrics may require brushing to restore appearance. Cushion covers should not be removed and dry cleaned.
